Why an Off-Season Wedding Might Be Your Best Move

January 21, 2023•2 min read

Most weddings happen between May and October, and those Saturdays go fast. If you are flexible on your date, an off-season wedding in late fall, winter or early spring has a lot going for it.

More dates to choose from

During peak season, popular Saturdays often book 12 to 18 months out. In the off-season, you will usually find more open dates at your favorite venue and with the vendors you want most.

More flexibility with your vendors

With fewer weddings on the calendar, vendors often have more room to work with you. Ask each one about off-season availability and options when you reach out.

Easier for your guests

Guests are not juggling three summer weddings in a row, and travel and hotel options are often easier to find outside of peak season.

A built-in theme

A winter or holiday-season wedding comes with a natural look and feel: warm lights, rich colors and cozy details.

Lighting does the heavy lifting

Off-season days are shorter, so your reception happens after dark. That is a good thing. Uplighting in warm tones makes any room feel cozy, and dance floor lighting, moving heads and a disco ball turn it into a party.

Plan for the weather

  • Choose an indoor ceremony or a venue with a solid indoor backup

  • Plan coat check and covered entrances

  • Give guests a little extra travel time in your timeline

Make it feel magical

Off-season weddings are perfect for big moments indoors: dancing on the clouds for your first dance, cold sparks for your grand entrance or your monogram in light on the dance floor.
